Teej Festival in Nepal

Teej festival is celebrated by women only for three days. On the evening of the first day (Dar Khane) they eat and enjoy a great variety of delicious food prepared by themselves During the second day, known as Teej, the women fast, by not drinking even a drop of water and take a ritual bath in the river to sanctify the sins if they have committed in the past year. during the all three days women visit Lord Shiva’s temple at Pashupatinath to pray for their husband’s happiness and longevity life. A colorful fair also is worth visiting held at Risheswor Temple in Teku on the Last day where women gather to worship, sing and dance. Lots of them come there from villages, hills and cities dressed in impressive red saris and blouses and; and also wearing red bangles and decorative tikas on their forehead. Gents also take part in the fair by singing “dohari songs” in the group with women.

Besides, some others have passed away and their bodies were santifying in the river.
